How Are Goat Hairs Cut and Collected?

The manufacturing of goat hair tents and yurt goat hair tents has been carried out by companies from ancient times to the present day. Today, the Aegean region is also a center where these types of tents are produced, with goat hair tents being produced and sold as both hand-woven and industrial products. Goat hair is quite durable both for shearing and against fire. Due to these properties, it also provides a safe living environment for individuals.

How Are the Collected Hairs Dried?

Goat hair is generally processed in two ways. In the first method, hairs shorn from goats are collected by shepherds and sold to the relevant companies at certain times. In the second method, hairs are collected from leather processing plants called tanneries. Here, the hairs are separated from the skin, collected, and transported to their processing locations in suitable vehicles. In this way, goat hair is used in yurts, goat hair tents, and all other tent models and products. After collection, the obtained hairs must first be dried. For this process, the delivered hairs are spread on roads or suitable areas and dried by turning them over during the day. Afterward, they are collected again and taken to combing machines. The collected hairs are separated according to their colors, and then the production of yurts, goat hair tents, and other tent models begins.
